A recognised South Australian icon
de Masi jones was approached by the Passenger Transport Board to redesign the livery graphics for the State’s Metro buses.
The existing liveries on over 800 busses and trains were due for an entire visual overhaul. The initial brief was to create graphics that feature an easily recognisable theme that is tied to a relevant aspect of the State of South Australia.
The overall creative brief required the development of a suitable and consistent form of graphic, colour or shape that would best represent the transport service to the public. The theme for the livery designs was based on 'direction'; direction for the State of South Australia and a proposed uniform network of dedicated and shared public transport corridors with consistently identifiable vehicles. In support of this, the idea of using the State colours was put forward as a mandatory foundation. de Masi jones developed several graphic concepts for the PTB to consider prior to the final selection process and the current roll-out strategy.
The livery design has since been adopted by the State train and tram fleets.
