A strong sub-brand for low budget film making

In 2009 the SAFC approached us with a fun and interesting brief, to design an identity to support a new initiative for low budget high impact films, or FILMLAB. Being a sub brand of the SAFC, and with a different target audience than their parent brand, the FILMLAB brand had to portray experimentation, youth and diversity. As such the symbol was conceived for its simplicity and bold presence. The “out of the can” colours are clean and bold and take the identity back to basics, every colour can be created from these three colours, symbolising the endless possibilities of film making.
The FILMLAB brand has been very successful and to this day has good recognition within its community.
